Meet Golden Sunbeam's Board of Directors

The Board of Directors comprises six members with more than 75 years of combined experience in Education, Business, Government, Entrepreneurship, Management and Consulting. The Board is the highest decision making body of the school and is responsible for providing strategic direction and guidelines for the management of the school.

 

Chairman Board of Directors: Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Opare Snr.

Mr. Emmanuel Opare (Snr): Chairman Board of DirectorsMr. Emmanuel Ohene Opare is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Golden Sunbeam Schools. Mr Opare  retired from the Customs, Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) holding 3 portfolios as an Assistant Commissioner in charge of Excise and Sales tax, the UNCTAD ASYCUDA project the forerunner of the current , GCNET and Exports.

Prior to working for the CEPS, Mr Opare worked as Mathematics Tutor at the Bolgatanga Girls Secondary School, the Ministry of Industries Science and Technology where he worked as an Industrial Promotion Officer and during that time served as a Secretary to the Inter Ministerial Committee for the establishment and expansion of Industries in Ghana and as a Deputy Manager at the Social Security Bank from where he was seconded to the National Revenue Secretariat as principal Research Officer. He was then again seconded to CEPS to serve as  the first Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Excise and Sales Tax after the restructuring of the Revenue Agencies.

As manager of the ASYCUDA and  with his love for analysis of statistics Mr Opare was able to plug loopholes in the import trade saving Ghana a lot of revenue.

As the Assistant commissioner in charge of excise , mr Opare used his backround as a chemical engineer to rake in several millions of revenue to Ghana and plugged all the revenue leakages in the domestic manufacturing industry

Mr Opare was Chairman of the Technical Committee for the introduction of VAT in Ghana  and Chairman  of the Duty Drawback Committee under the auspices of the  USAID sponsored Trade and Investment Program in Ghana from 1993-1997

He was CEPS representative on the Ghana Gateway Committee set up to remove all impediments from the export trade in consonance with Governments avowed aim of establishing an export led growth economy. mr opare was one of the members of the delegation to Malaysia to study the best practices of the free zone system in that counry

He was also a prominent member of the CEPS Budget Committee tasked with the provision of revenue estimates from the manufacturing sector to the National Budget

He established Ohene Opare Consult (OOC), a Management consulting company in 1997 specialising in  statutory duty drawback payments for exporting companies. Clients of OOC include blue chip companies such as AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited and Unilever Ghana Limited Ashanti Foam, Poly products etc. retrieving several millions of cedis for the exporters from Government to boost the export trade.

Mr. Opare  was appointed by the government of Ghana as one of the consultants selected to assist the Ugandan government, Ministry of Finance, in restructuring her tax institutions under the auspices of the United Nations Development Program leading to the establishment of the Uganda Revenue Authority,

He  also consulted for the ECOWAS Community Computer Center for the introduction of ASYCUDA (AUTOMATED SYSTEM FOR CUSTOMS DATA) to the Nigerian Customs Service

Mr. Ohene Opare is the co-founder and Executive Director of Sunbeam Equal Educational Opportunity for All Foundation (SEEOFAF), a non-profit organization dedicated to the provision of quality education for over 170 deprived and needy children in Essam a village in the Birim Central Disctrict and in Adenta Accra.

Mr. Ohene Opare is a 2004 recipient of the Meridian Leadership Award for his ecclesiastical and educational contributions, service and work. He is a chemical engineer by training and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in addition to training in Project Planning and Development from GIMPA.  preparation of industrial feasibility studies from UNIDO, Industrial Planning from the Bruno Leuschner University in the former German Democratic Republic

Mr. Ohene Opare Sr. is a lifelong scholar and leader who loves learning. He has participated in several professional development courses including the World Bank / IFC sponsored training courses for private school managers, Finance for the Non Financial Executive organized by Price Waterhouse And Coopers

Mr Opare  has been spearheading the use of ICT in learning at the basic and secondary  school level since 2009 and together with a learning management system LMS  and  content providers, are poised to revolutionize education in Ghana and beyond using the tablet as a medium to reach out to several  children marooned in the rural areas through no fault of theirs.

Mr Opare has been given authorization by the National Accreditation Board with certificate No NAB/AU/0000588  to gather the necessary resources to establish a the Golden Sunbeam International College of Science and Technology to run courses in Health and Allied Sciences, Agriculture Technology and Agribusiness, Computer Science  and Information and Communication Technology,Early Childhood and Montessori and Science Education and Engineering aimed at giving students immediate employment upon graduation.

in May 2014 Mr Opare received , on behalf of the Golden Sunbeam, a prestigious award from CSR DIARY a corporate social responsibility organisation rewarding recipients for honoring their corporate social responsibility.

 

 



Co - Chair Board of Directors: Mrs. Monica Ohene Opare

Mrs. Monica Ohene Opare: Co - Chair Board of DirectorsMrs. Monica Ohene Opare is a co-founder and Head of Academic Affairs at Golden Sunbeam Schools (GSS). She has in the beginning of GSS, played a strategic role in the school’s management and development nurturing the school from 11 children in 1989 to a school with a student population of more than 500 students from pre-school through senior high.

She received recognition for her leadership in and entrepreneurship as she was hosted on the TV 3 M’ASEM program which celebrates the achievements of successful Ghanaian entrepreneurs. In addition, she is a co-founder and Director of Sunbeam Equal Educational Opportunity Foundation.

Mrs. Opare is an environment and resource graduate from the Presbyterian University College in addition to an International Diploma  in  Montessori  Education from the North American Montessori Center.

Together with Mr. Opare, Mrs. Opare is a 2004 recipient and winner of the Meridian Leadership Award for her ecclesiastical and educational contribution in empowering the next generation of Africa leaders. Furthermore, she has training and 22 years of experience in education and school administrations taking World Bank / IFC sponsored training courses for private school managers.

Mrs Opare was one of the few Ghanians in 1979, selected to join the American Foreign Exchange Student Program her positive educational experience in the United States has played an important role in the governance and educational experience offered at Golden Sunbeam.

 

President: Mr. Ohene Opare Jnr.

Mr. Ohene Opare (Jnr): President Golden Sunbeam SchoolsMr Emmanuel Ohene Opare Jnr, is the president of Golden Sunbeam Schools. He worked as a Systems Engineer with Battelle Energy Alliance in the United States of America.

His experience in consulting and providing decision support to management and projects has been a great asset to Golden Sunbeam. In his spare time, Mr. Opare Jr, develops decision support tools in areas of risk and opportunity management, lean management, strategic planning and road mapping. These skill sets have enabled Golden Sunbeam develop strategies in the school's growth and governance.

Mr Ohene Opare Jr. was a recipient of an outstanding service for his contribution to decision support, risk management and technology development road mapping for the Next Generation Nuclear Plant project funded by the US department of energy. Mr. Ohene Opare Jr has journal publications in Risk management and Reliability analysis and is a member of the International Symposium of Systems Engineers (INCOSE) and American Society of Quality. He is one of the first alumni of Golden Sunbeam and he holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University, and a master's in Engineering Management from the University of Idaho, Moscow.

Mr. Ohene Opare Jr, has relevant and practical years of experience in Lean management,Six Sigma and venture capital and establishing cost effective solutions which make organizations become efficient in delivering their products and services.



Director of Administration/Academics: Mrs. Mariam Etim John

Mrs. Mariam Etim John: Director of Administration/Academic AffiarsMrs. Etim John, the Director of Administration/Academic Affairs at Golden Sunbeam Schools. She is responsible for organizing major events on campus.

Marian is a product of the University of Cape Coast with a BSc in Agriculture Science. Marian is a Golden Sunbeam alumni and joins the board of directors with relevant hands-on experience in managing, organizing and coordinating activities and programs. Her role as an adviser to senior management has been instrumental to helping the school establish successful academic programs on campus.

 

Her hands on management style has influenced the success of teaching coordination and programs at Sunbeam. Marian is a leader and visionary who understands the complexities of management and we are glad to have her on board.

 

Board Member: Mr Alma G. Ohene Opare

Mr. Alma Ohene Opare: Board Member

Mr Alma G. Ohene Opare is currently working as a Software Implementation Engineer with Hyland in the United States of America. Alma is an entrepreneur at heart and has several years of experience in information technology and information management. Alma's experience as a program manager at Microsoft brings to the board relevant skills personnel management.

In his spare time, Alma does some computer programing, develops websites for start-ups and provides coaching to want to-be entrepreneurs. Alma is a Golden Sunbeam alumnus, and has a BSc in Computer Science/Information Technology from Brigham Young Universityand is now doing his Masters at the Western Governors University in the US

Alma has been instrumental in building the Golden Sunbeam website as this effort continues to enable the school reach a wider audience.

 

 

Director of Admissions: Mrs. Amanda Enyi - Ineh

Mrs. Amanda Enyi - Ineh (Director of Admission)is the school's Director of Admissions and doubles as the Guidance and counselling unit . She is a product of Golden sunbeam, Aburi Girls Senior High School and proud product of the University of Ghana with a BA in Psychology.

Amanda brings on board people skills which endears her to the students and helps her resolve concerns easily
